Two resistors, a and b, are connected in parallel. The total resistance, R, in such a circuit is found by the formula R=1/a+1/b, if R=5/6 ohms and b is three more ohms than a, find the number of ohms in a and b.

actually, that's 1/R = 1/a + 1/b
so now you have
1/(5/6) = 1/a + 1/(3a)
a = 10/9
so b = 10/3
so now you have
1/(5/6) = 1/a + 1/(3a)
a = 10/9
so b = 10/3
