then:
spent on sweets ---- 12 , leaving him with 1/2 x
spent 1/4 of that on nut, (1/4)(1/2)x = 1/8 x

so he spent 1/2 x + 1/8 x or (5/8)3, that would leave 3/8 x
3/8 x = 6
3x = 48
x = 16
