amount spent by Jason ---- x
amount spent by Ben ---- y

we know x+y = 530

Jason now has 450 - x
Ben now has 250 - y
Jason has 3 times what Ben has ----->
450-x = 3(250-y)
450-x = 750 - 3y
x - 3y = -300 , subtract from
x + y = 530
4y = 830
y = 207.50 , x = 322.50
