In a closed system, an object with a mass of 10 kg moves at a velocity of 5.4 m/s. It collides with a second object that has a mass of 12 kg and that is moving in the opposite direction with a velocity of 3.5 m/s. What is the total momentum of the system after the collision?
(A)12 kg-m/s
(B)66 kg-m/s
(C)42 kg-m/s
(D)54 kg-m/s
My answer is A, but if that's the wrong answer I believe it would be D

why do you think A?
But if it "might be" D, are you just guessing?
I suspect a typo, because I don't like any of the choices.
You show me your work, and I'll show you mine.

the total system momentum does not change
(10 kg * 5.4 m/s) - (12 kg * 3.5 m/s) = ? kg⋅m/s
no typo (that I can see) ... A looks good
(10 kg * 5.4 m/s) - (12 kg * 3.5 m/s) = ? kg⋅m/s
no typo (that I can see) ... A looks good

Did you get it right?

A
P=MV
P= M1V1-M2V2
5.4*10-12*3.5 = 12
P=MV
P= M1V1-M2V2
5.4*10-12*3.5 = 12
