    assume you mean
x+y=3 and 5x-5y=1
so you can say y = 3 - x and substitute that in the second equation
5 x - 5 (3-x) = 1
5 x - 15 + 5 x = 1
10 x = 16
x = 1.6
then y = 3 - 1.6 = 1.4
