m + 2 n = 3 Subtract 2 n to both sides

m + 2 n - 2 n = 3 - 2 n

m = 3 - 2 n

Put this value in equation 2 m + n = 0

2 ( 3 - 2 n ) + n = 0

2 * 3 - 2 * 2 n + n = 0

6 - 4 n + n = 0

6 - 3 n = 0 Add 3 n to both sides

6 - 3 n + 3 n = 0 + 3 n

6 = 3 n Divide both sides by 3

6 / 3 = 3 n / 3

2 = n

n = 2

Now:

m + 2 n = 3

m + 2 * 2 = 3

m + 4 = 3 Subtract 4 to both sides

m + 4 - 4 = 3 - 4

m = - 1

The solutions are:

m = - 1 , n = 2
