You obviously mean

(1+√5)/(1-√5) or else there would be no problem
= (1+√5)/(1-√5) * (1+√5)/(1+√5)
= (1 + 2√5 + 5) / (1 - 5)
= (6 + 2√5)/-4
= (-3 - √5)/2
