Suppose you have a rectangular piece of thin cardboard that measures 20cm by 10cm. From each corner you cut a square that is 4cm on a side. If you turn up the edges to form a box, what will the volume of the box be? Draw a sketch to explain your answer.

So you will lose 4 cm on each side on the base
length of base = 20-8 = 12 cm
width of base = 10-8 = 2 cm
height = 4 cm
volume = 12(2)(4) cm^3 = 96 cm^3
length of base = 20-8 = 12 cm
width of base = 10-8 = 2 cm
height = 4 cm
volume = 12(2)(4) cm^3 = 96 cm^3
