AB: (5 * 2) + 8 = 18
AD: (3 * 2) + 12 = 18
So, x = 2.

Tessa has proven that x=2, but to find that out, you just need to remember that the sides of a square are all the same length. So,
5x+8 = 3x+12
solving that will show that x=2
