x=2(y-1)^2+2
x-2 = 2(y-1)^2
(x-2)/2 = (y-1)^2
y-1 = ±√((x-2)/2)
y = 1±√((x-2)/2)
or, expanding things,
2y^2 - 4y + 4-x = 0
y = (4±√(16 - 8(4-x))/4
= (2±√(2x-8))/2
which is the same as above
x-2 = 2(y-1)^2
(x-2)/2 = (y-1)^2
y-1 = ±√((x-2)/2)
y = 1±√((x-2)/2)
or, expanding things,
2y^2 - 4y + 4-x = 0
y = (4±√(16 - 8(4-x))/4
