Photosynthesis is required for plants to grow new cells.
My answer:
I think this statement is true because
Photosynthesis is how a plant makes food. When you eat food (when you're a child) you grow. Like a plant. The plant creates food, and eats it. The plant becomes taller/gets leaves/roots grow, it depends on the plant.

Yes, I think your answer is just fine. I might go a bit further given the present concern about increases in carbon dioxide in our air. The photosynthesis is crucial to getting the C back out of the CO2 that we put in when we burn carbon containing molecules to make heat.
