"je dormisse"(imparfait du subjunctif)

Could also please fill in the English:
je demande - I ask
je demande (subjunctive) -
j'ai demandé - I have asked
je demandais - I asked
je demandai -
je demanderai - I will ask
je demanderais - I would ask
je demandasse -

thank you so very much!
Yes, it "might" be correct, "I slept." Actually I would call that the tertiary meaning for the Imperfect, because it is the translation also for the Passé Composé. Ordinarily there are 3 English translations for l'Imparfait.
je dormais = I WAS sleepING, I USED TO sleep (repetitive action), I slept.
You won't see the Imperfect Subjunctive outside of literature very much. But, when you do the translation will contain the word "might" (past tense of "may," cue for Pres. Subj.)

je dormisse = that I might sleep (I'd call it not the best translation with "slept."

This exercise with "dormir" and "demander" is excellent because otherwise you might never be aware of the various translations!

je demande (usually 3 translations for the Present Indicative in English) = I ask for, I DO ask for, I AM askING for.

que je demande (Subjunctive can have various meanings, depending upon the context, but usually the word "may." = that I may ask, BUT with context it could sound like the Present Indicative, even the Future, the Infinitive!

j'ai demandé (Passé Composé also has 3 English translations usually) = I have asked, I DID ask, I askED

je demandais (L'Imparfait = usually 3 English translations) = I WAS asking, I USED to ask, I askED

je demandai (Passé Simple = usually 2 translations) = I askED, I DID ask

je demanderai (the Futur "might" have 2 but the 2nd is dying out in English) = I WILL ask, I SHALL ask

je demanderais (the Conditionnel with one) = I WOULD ask

je demandasse (Imperfect Subjunctive with one) = I MIGHT ask (for could be stated or understood)

NOTE: You didn't ask, but what about the Compound Tenses?

j'avais demandé (plus-que-parfait/Pluperect or Past Perfect Indicative) = I HAD askED

j'eus demandé (passé antérieur/Past Anterior) = I HAD askED

j'aurai demandé (futur antérieur/Future Perfect or Future Anterior) I HAVE askED

j'aurais demandé (conditionnel passé/Conditional Perfect) = I WOULD HAVE askED

j'aie demandé (passé du subjonctif/Past Subjunctive) = that I MAY HAVE askED

j'eusse demandé (plus-que-parfait du subjonctif/Pluperfect or Past Perfect Subjunctive) that I MIGHT HAVE askED

demande / demandons / demandez (L'Impératif)
ask! / let's ask!/ ask!

demandant (Present Participle) askING

Mon Dieu! That was a work-out but I think I have them all. Hopefully we will NEVER have to go through that again?!!
