Half of 42 is 21
So, 21 - 3 = 18 are brick
That leaves 42 - 18 = 24 not brick
3/4 * 24 = 18 are white
24 - 18 = 6 are left
So, 21 - 3 = 18 are brick
That leaves 42 - 18 = 24 not brick
3/4 * 24 = 18 are white
24 - 18 = 6 are left

21 -3 = 18 houses are made of brick.
The rest (non-brick) are 42 - 18 = 24.
(3/4)x 24 = 18 are non-brick and white.
That leaves 6 for "other colors"
