rate of first machine = 1/25
rate of 2nd machine = 1/30
combined rate = 1/25 + 1/30 = 11/150
time at combined rate = 1/(11/150) = 150/11
or appr 13.6 minutes
rate of 2nd machine = 1/30
combined rate = 1/25 + 1/30 = 11/150
time at combined rate = 1/(11/150) = 150/11
or appr 13.6 minutes

The rate of machine #1: X/25
The rate of machine #2: X/30
Equation: X/25 + X/30 = 1
* 6X/150 + 5X/150 = 1
* 11X/150 = 1
* 11x = 150
* x = 150/11
* x = 13.63...
* x = 13.64
It takes both machines 13.64 minutes to pick a bale of cotton.
The rate of machine #2: X/30
Equation: X/25 + X/30 = 1
* 6X/150 + 5X/150 = 1
* 11X/150 = 1
* 11x = 150
* x = 150/11
* x = 13.63...
* x = 13.64
It takes both machines 13.64 minutes to pick a bale of cotton.
