The difference of two numbers is 96 and their sum is 300. Find the numbers. What is the answer for that?

x-y = 96
x+y = 300

solve that, or reason thusly:

150+150=300
difference is zero

The difference is 96, so subtract 48 from one number and add 48 to the other:

102+198 = 300
difference is 96
