2 years ago you were x
2 years ago your mom was 4x
18 years from now, you will be x+20
18 years from now, your mom will be 4x+20
x+20 = (1/2)(4x+20)
x+20 = 2x + 10
10 = x
2 years ago, you were 10, your mom was 40
you are now 12, your mom is now 42
check:
2 years ago you were 10, you Mom was 40
18 years from now you will be 12+18 or 30, your Mom will be 42+18 or 60 , so you will be half her age.
That checks out!
