will someone please explain to me what these word choices mean?

Look up the words you don't understand. Type the word into your web browser (Google, Bing, whatever you have) and the word "definition", to do so. In this case, also go back to your text materials to find out how these words are used in this context.

In this instance, I do not know how your text materials use these terms. I would opt for "informal", since the statement uses the value judgment "weird". But, again, I don't have access to your text materials. You'll have to figure this one out on that basis.
