Which colony? When?
Answered by Jerry
The English settlement of Virginia, or the Jamestown colony. And during the early 1600s

This may explain a lot. And remember Spain already had extensive colonies in the Americas by 1604, including Florida to the south of Jamestown.

Try reading the websites posted above and see why the English didn't want to advertise their settlement to the Spanish.

OHHHHHHH. Was it because they didn't want to get their colony taken over by the Spanish, so they kept their colony hidden for this reason?
Answered by Reed
Taken over or attacked, probably yes!
