Why did the English want to hide their colony from Spaniards? Please help!!!!

The English settlement of Virginia, or the Jamestown colony. And during the early 1600s

This may explain a lot. And remember Spain already had extensive colonies in the Americas by 1604, including Florida to the south of Jamestown.

OHHHHHHH. Was it because they didn't want to get their colony taken over by the Spanish, so they kept their colony hidden for this reason?

I think they wanted to hide their colony because the did not want the Spaniards to take it over
