just multiply the tops and bottoms:
x y^2 z^2
-----------------
yz z y
add the powers of each variable:
x y^2 z^2
------------
y^2 z^2
Now cancel like factors, and you wind up with just
x
x y^2 z^2
-----------------
yz z y
add the powers of each variable:
x y^2 z^2
------------
y^2 z^2
Now cancel like factors, and you wind up with just
x
