Items are arranged in alphabetical order by the first word in the reference, whether it is a person's last name or an organization name.

Wouldn't it depend on the style guide you are using? APA, Chicago, or other? On reference lists, I personally have not been an APA fan. I like to list references in the order they were cited in the paper, but be that as it so logical to me, most folks don't agree with me, and the popular style manuals call for something else
