8/8 - (4/8 + 1/8 + 2/8) = ?

First multiply the fractions so the denometor is the same. 1/2=4/8, 1/8, and 2/8. SO you can see that the first three children have 7/8 of the estate meaning that the last one gets 1/8. Make sense?
