how do i figuire this problem out?

..

A deep-sea diver must descend and ascend in short steps to equalize pressure on his body. If the diver rises toward the surface too fast, he may suffer from a physical condition called “the bends.” Suppose the diver started at 82 feet below the surface and rose in five steps of 15 feet each. Use an integer to describe his new position in relation to the water surface.

I just did the test and got 15/15 with ungraded points

The problem starts out saying the the deep sea diver starts at 82 feet below surface.... -82

Rose15 feet each time, five times.... +5(15)

s stands for surface

-82+5(15)=s
-82+75=s
-7=s

The diver would have to dive 7 more feet on the 6th step to reach surface.

I hope it helped!

A:82 - 5(15) = 82 - 75 = 7
Answered by Hooman
Its negative 7 because he started 82 ft below sea level meaning -82 and then you subtract 75 ( 15x5) to get -7, 82 is bigger than 75 and since 82 is negative and is bigger the answer will be negative. SO YES IT IS -7

The deep-sea diver started at 82 feet below the surface, and rose in five steps of 15 feet each. So, the total distance they covered is 5 x 15 = 75 feet. However, since they started 82 feet below the surface, we need to subtract the total distance they covered from 82:

82 - 75 = 7

Therefore, the deep-sea diver's new position in relation to the water surface is 7 feet below the surface.
