1.a)Determine dy/dx if y= sqrt[(3x^2+2)^3]

For this question, I got 9/2x(3x^2+2)^1/2 as my answer.

b)State any values of x for which the function is not differentiable

1 answer

y= sqrt[(3x^2+2)^3]
= (3x^2 + 2)^(3/2)
dy/dx = (3/2)(3x^2 + 2)^(1/2) (6x)
= 9x(3x^2+2)^(1/2)
or
= 9√(3x^2 + 2) ,

which is valid for all values of x
since (3x^2 + 2) is always positive.
