The way you typed it:
2 + 1/x(x+1) =5/x+1
multiply by x
2x + (x+1) = 5 + x
3x + 1 = 5 + x
2x = 4
x = 2
If you meant:
2 + 1/(x(x+1)) =5/(x+1)
multiply each term by x(x+1)
2x(x+1) + 1 = 5x
2x^2 + 2x + 1 = 5x
2x^2 - 3x + 1 = 0
(2x - 1)(x - 1) = 0
x = 1/2 or x = 1
x: 2 + 1/x(x+1) =5/x+1
