Margaret Anne Thompson, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2023, at the age of 76, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 12, 1947, in Springfield, Illinois, Margaret was the eldest of three children. She graduated from Springfield High School and went on to study at the University of Illinois, where she earned her degree in Education. She dedicated her life to teaching, inspiring countless students at Lincoln Middle School over her 30-year career.
Margaret was known for her unwavering kindness, infectious laughter, and passion for the arts. She loved painting and would often spend weekends immersed in her latest masterpiece. Her vibrant spirit was matched only by her dedication to her family. She was a devoted mother to her two children, Jason and Emily, instilling in them the values of empathy, hard work, and a love for learning.
In her later years, Margaret cherished every moment with her grandchildren, Ava and Liam. She was their biggest cheerleader, attending every recital, soccer match, and school event with enthusiasm and pride.
Margaret was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, where she volunteered and organized community events. Her legacy of service and community involvement touched many lives. She was also an avid traveler, with a special fondness for the mountains and the ocean, often taking family trips to create lasting memories.
Margaret is survived by her two children, Jason (Laura) Thompson and Emily (Michael) Stevens, her beloved grandchildren Ava and Liam, her two siblings, Robert (Linda) and Susan (Thomas), and a multitude of friends who will miss her dearly.
A celebration of life will be held at First United Methodist Church on October 22, 2023, at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the local arts program in Margaret’s name, ensuring her passion for creativity continues to inspire future generations.
Margaret’s warmth and love will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, creativity, and unwavering support for her family and friends. Rest in peace, dear Margaret; you will be dearly missed.
