Write an equation and show all work.

One Monday, 405 students went on a trip to the zoo. All 7 buses were filled and 6 students had to travel in cars. How many students were in each bus?

(My teacher taught the class but no one even understand, can you please help me and show me more details how to solve this type of question. Thanks Thanks Thanks!)

7x + 6 = 405

Subtract 6 from both sides of the equation.

7x = 399

x = 399/7

x = 57
This means that the number of students did not exactly fill the total capacity of the 7 buses, because there are 6 who had to travel in cars.
What we'll do here is first, we subtract the 6 "extra" students from the 405, so that we'll know the exact, total capacity of the 7 buses:
405 - 6 = 399 students
Now, to get the capacity of each bus, we divide 399 by 7. We expect to have a whole number (or no remainder):
399 / 7 = 57 students
Therefore, the number of students (total capacity) in each bus is 57 students.

Hope this helps~ :3
Thank you so very much!!! I still have 9 more questions and I will use this example to solve them. Thanks again Ms.Sue & Jai :)
