Why was there an Agricultural boom during WW1? Why did the boom come to an end?

I believe because supplies were so desperatly needed for not only soldiers but the workers. Wartime boom usually, almost always occurs, and right after that there is a surplus, where too much is being produced and not enough is being demanded.
