Which statement describes the principal quantum number (n)?
A. The quantum number that indicates the subshell occupied by an electron
B. The quantum number that indicates the energy level of the electron
C. A subdivision of an energy level in an atom
D. The probability of finding the electron at a radius r from the nucleus

I would go with d.
the answer was b
OK but I disagree. b can be right in certain cases, as in the case of the H atom, but for other atoms the orbitals(s,p,d,f) determine the energy of the electrons. The answer d is correct for n of any element.
