It sure looks like every time the distance increases by 1 mile,
the cost increases by 1.75
So what do you think?
What's the slope?
The table shows the rates for Austin Cab Company.
Number of Miles Total Cost ($)
0 3.00
1 4.75
2 6.50
3 8.25
What does the slope mean in this situation?

Yes I agree with you but I'm confused on how to find the slope and what it means
Is 1.75 the slope perhaps?
yes , 1.75 is the slope ... cost per mile
the cost DEPENDS on the miles
cost is the dependent variable - y
miles is the independent variable - x
the cost DEPENDS on the miles
cost is the dependent variable - y
miles is the independent variable - x
OMG Thank you!!
Think about it this way. If you've travelled no miles, you're gonna have to pay $3, which is your y-intercept. However, for every mile you travel afterward, you will have to pay an additional $1.75 for every mile ON TOP of the $3.00 flat fee. This is your slope, or rate of change.
