Desert Storm was a war fought to help a supposed ally, Kuwait, although there was no threat to the United States. It was significant also because it probably led directly to the present Iraq War.

If you look at all of U.S. history, I don't think the Gulf War (Desert Storm) was particularly significant. It wasn't the first time that the U.S. had invaded another country that did not pose a threat to us. At this time, I believe that it's biggest significance was that it may have lead to our present war in Iraq.
