'What signifigance did the title have in the short story Marigolds?'

The title of the short story, Marigolds, was significent because the children in the story threw stones at Ms.Lottie's marigolds for no reason; they were the only things around Ms.Lottie's broken down house that had vibrant colors and added a touch of happiness to the decaying place. Later in the story, when Lizabeth hears her father crying, she goes to the marigolds and rips them all, destroying all of Ms.Lottie's hard work. When she sees Ms.Lottie's expression to what she has done, she realizes that her childhood is gone and the marigolds helped her to reach her adulthood.

The only thing I would comment on is it possible that the story was about childhood lost, and the marigolds represent that?
