1. If there were no main verb, there would be no complete sentence. "houses" is the main verb here = c

2. This is a simple sentence with a compound verb "are taking" = c
Simple sentence = one independent clause with no dependent clause.
Dependent clause = contains additional in formation but cannot stand alone
Compound verb = has an auxiliary or helping verb + another verb form, such as "are + taking"
Compound sentence = has 2 or more independent clauses
