Well I have some things from an article:

opposition of life and death, living in order to move closer to death

All life is a movement toward
death, Neruda associates time with death

time symbol serves as a bridge between the related themes of death and of solitude

It looks like they all tie in with the fact that every living creature dies. Death provides the ultimate solitude.
