Hey, Michael!
President Johnson was the elected president following Abraham Lincoln's assassination in 1865. He had thought that troops should be withdrawn from the South. However, Stanton opposed this. Johnson, in response, suspended Stanton from his position as Secretary of War. For this action, the House of Representatives impeached President Johnson in 1868 reasoning that his actions disobeyed constitutional law; and that they were not plausible as it was Stanton's call.
