what does x equal in this problem? -2/3(x+2)=12?

2 answers

-2/3x times -4/3 equals 12
add 4/3 to both sides
-2/3x = 13 1/3
multiply both sides by -3/2
x = 40/3 times -3/2
so x = -20
Yes, I might have done it a little differently though.
multiply both sides by -3/2 right off the bat
x + 2 = 12(-3/2)
x + 2 = -18 now add -2 to both sides
x = -20
