The Cinderella story (Yeh-Shen) originated in China in the seventh century A.D. It was later revised in European versions by Perrault (Cendrillon), Rossini (Cenerentola), The Grimm brothers (Aschenputtel), and much later by Disney. The names of the heroine and the stepsisters keep changing with each version. There were no stepsisters in the Chinese version.
