Normally, we use the word 'liaison' with the preposition 'between' or 'with' to identify someone who works with two or more groups to get one job done. Here are two examples:
Natalie is our association's liaison with the web hosting company because she can explain what we want on our website in detail.
John is the liaison between our homeowners' group and the county sheriff's office, dealing with non-emergency situations.
There's a volunteer worker who volunteers closely two diff organizations. If one organization receives donations and can't utilize them, he'll bring it over to the other organization that maybe can, and vice versa.
Can it be said that he serves as a "liaison" for both organizations?
Or what would be the proper way to use liaison in a sentence.

David serves as the liaison between Quality care for Children and the Salvation Army by bringing over food items that cannot be utilized at one organization to the other and vice versa.

I'd write this:
David serves as the liaison between Quality Care for Children and the Salvation Army by coordinating food supplies so that each organization receives the amounts it needs.
He himself would probably not do the actual transporting of food; he would be the organizer (or coordinator) for the food supply levels of the organizations.
Delivery of food to or between organizations would be done by others, at David's direction.

Well he does volunteer as a driver of the truck. If one organization gets food items/donations that they can't use, and rather than throwing it away, he'll bring it to the other organization he volunteers for who may accept it.
If he has a group working with/for him, you could call him a volunteer AND a liaison.
