The teacher gave this pattern to the class: the first term is 5 and the rule is add 4, subtract 1. Each student says one number. The first student says 5. Victor is tenth in line. What number should Victor say?

Victor should say 35, if I am correct
"the rule is add 4, subtract 1" ---> in effect is adding 3
term(n) = 5 + 3n
so term(10) = 5 + 3(10) = 35
Emma is correct
term(n) = 5 + 3n
so term(10) = 5 + 3(10) = 35
Emma is correct
35 is not an option your choices are 17 19 20 and 21
Each student says one number, so the answer is 21.
5+4=9 1st person
9-1=8

15-1=14
21
20, of course
IF each student says "one" number wouldn't Victor say 12? Or did I completely oversimplify the pattern...
Each student says one number, so the answer is 21.

8+4=12
12-1=11

12-1=11
11+4=15
15-1=14
