The Notebook has guided questions for each lesson.

The two questions posed for each lesson MUST be answered. Students should respond in a paragraph (5-6 sentences). Be sure to use proper grammar, and correct spelling.

Be sure to read the question and answer it accordingly. :)

The other two sections - “What questions do you have?” and “Other Notes/ Thoughts” are optional to complete.
THAT being said – Students are expected to use these sections often, but is it not required to use for each lesson.
We expect students to use these sections at least half of the time. :) Students should have questions and thoughts about the lessons / texts.

Unit 4
Writing Explanatory Text

Lesson 3
Introductions

The text that I'm reading is about Dale Chihuly, the famous large-scale glass artist. In the introduction, the writer first describes in detail one of Chihuly's pieces. She tells about the colors and shapes and the mood the work invokes. This captures the reader's interest. Then, she reveals that it is a piece of glass art by Chihuly and states the importance of his work.

Provide an alternate “hook statement” for the article on screen 12. Be sure to identify the type of “hook” being used.

1 answer

An alternate “hook statement” for the article could be: "Imagine stepping into a vibrant world where swirling colors and delicate shapes seem to dance before your eyes; welcome to the enchanting creations of Dale Chihuly." This hook uses a "vivid imagery" approach, as it paints a picture in the reader's mind and evokes an emotional response. By appealing to the senses, this introduction sparks curiosity and invites readers to explore the mesmerizing beauty of Chihuly's work further. The vivid description encourages readers to visualize the art and feel the atmosphere surrounding it, effectively drawing them into the narrative. This technique sets the stage for discussing not only Chihuly's artistic style but also the impact and significance of his work in the contemporary art scene.
