If you followed Lincoln into leadership of the war torn country, what would you concentrate on ? ( I am not saying it was all done well)
......but it was the strong industrial economy in the north that was instrumental in defeating the south.

I do not think the Confederate states ever legally left the union. Secession is not an option in the US Constitution. However of course I am from some what north of Boston and therefore may not see it the way some others might :)
