if you let the width be w cm
isn't the length 2w + 5 ?
now form the equation for
perimeter = 34
let me know what you get.
The length of a rectangle is 5 cm more than twice the width. The perimeter of the rectangle is 34 cm. Find the dimensions of the rectangle.

aren't you supposed to form it for the width?
but forming one for the perimeter would be 2L+2w=34.
<< but forming one for the perimeter would be 2L+2w=34 >>
precisely!
but didn't it say " The length of a rectangle is 5 cm more than twice the width"
or
l = 5 + 2w , as I stated in my first reply.
so 2l + 2w = 34
2(5+2w) + 2w = 34
10 + 4w + 2w = 34
6w = 24
w = 4
then
l = 5 + 2w
= 5 + 8 = 13
check: is 13 five more than twice 4??
is 2(4) + 2(13) = 34 ?
mmmh?
