When I was still teaching, I used to have my students write down the English sentence, and then below it have it translated into "math".
example: # 36
The length of a rectangle is three times the width
l= 3w
The perimeter is 49 units
2l + 2w = 49 but l=3w
so 2(3w)+2w=49
8w=49
w=49/8
most of the others can be done is such a way.
