you can't just write things down .

I hope nobody showed you how to solve equations that way.

remember, "whatever you do to one side of the equation you must do to the other

3/2 x - 4 = 16
Add 4 to both sides

3/2 x = 20
multiply both sides by 2
3x = 40
now divide both sides by 3
x = 40/3

check:
if x = 20
LEFT Side = (3/2)(40/3) - 4
= 20 - 4 = 16
Right Side = 16
LS = RS , so my answer of 40/3 is correct

of course 40/3 could also be written as 13 1/3 , which was your answer.

I just don't like the way you present your solution
What is the aswers to the test!!!!!
