Jonas received = 1/8 * x = x/8
John received = $300
x/4 + x/8 + $300 = x
$300 = x - (x/4 + x/8)
= x - ((2x + x)/8)
$300 = x - 3x/8
$300 = (8x - 3x)/8
$300 * 8 = 5x
($300 * 8)/5 = x
x = $480
total money = $480
