Hello Class,

My name is Rebecca Wilson, and it is a pleasure to be in this learning forum with each of you. I am looking forward to getting to know you via the virtual class.

I am writing from Clayton, NC. I love the climate of North Carolina and have the best of all worlds. I am a little over an hour from the mountains and the beach. Depending on my mood I can go either direction.

I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Radford University, I waited 5 years and went back to earn my master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Longwood University. These were both traditional seated classes. I obtained my Psy.D from California Southern University. This was the first time I ventured into online learning.

I believe that internet learning opens up the doors to many people and I love being part of this experience. I have a love for learning and am always looking for opportunities to be part of a learning experience.

I have been teaching classes since 2001 and I must say that this is my passion. I was awarded the Teacher of the Year award from Halifax Community College, in 2007. I was nominated for the Teacher of the Year award at the University of Phoenix in 2020. 2021, 2022,and 2023. I was awarded the Phoenix 500 in 2020,2021,2022,2023 and 2024. I have teaching experience with traditional seated classes as well as online, and hybrid (online/seated). I teach psychology and human service classes.

I am currently employed with the CADA/ Head Start. I work with families, teachers, and children by providing mental health services. This is a great job and truly makes a difference in the children and families. I also work with adults with SPMI (Severe and Persistent Mental Illness) doing individual therapy as well as intensive in-home therapy. I have a variety of experiences in mental health ranging from direct services to supervision. I have worked in the areas of case management, therapy, and project development. I have worked with various mental health disabilities including Developmental Disabilities, Mental Health, SPMI (Severe and Persistent Mental Illness), Substance Abuse, and Dual Diagnosis. Additionally, I feel that educating the general community regarding mental health and developmental disability is vital. I serve on the board of Timely Intervention & Prevention Services, Incorporation (T.I.P.S., ICC.) where we provide training and education to the community.

In my free time, I spend time with my family and friends. I also try to keep my mind, body, and soul refreshed by exercising, eating healthy, and meditating.

Do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions, comments, or concerns regarding the course information. I can be reached at rwilson or 919-215-5001.

I look forward to this journey with you all!
