Please make your answer simple, yet also coherent. Intended for 9th grade.

Remember the law of conservation of matter. The human body uses cellular respiration to release energy from food. Recall the reactants and products of the process of cellular respiration. Using the chemical equation for cellular respiration, explain how the amounts of oxygen and carbon dioxide inhaled by the lungs is different from the amounts exhaled. Explain your answer in 1-2 sentences.

1 answer

Cellular respiration is a process where the body uses oxygen to break down food, producing carbon dioxide as a waste product. The chemical equation is: glucose (C₆H₁₂O₆) + oxygen (O₂) → carbon dioxide (CO₂) + water (H₂O) + energy. Since the body uses oxygen and creates more carbon dioxide, we inhale more oxygen than we exhale, and we exhale more carbon dioxide than we inhale.
