Leo's earnings --- x
Peter's earnings = 1.2x or 6x/5
Sam's earnings = (3/5)(6x/5) = 18x/25
after overtime:
Sam = 18x/25 + 384
18x/25 + 384 = 2(x)
times 25
18x + 9600 = 50x
32x = 9600
x = 300
so original earnings = x + 6x/5 + 18x/25
= 300(x + 6x/5 + 18x/25)
= 300 + 360 + 216
= 876
check:
Leo earned 300
Peter earned 300(1.2) = 360
Sam earned .6(360) = 216 <---- before his overtime
Sam with overtime = 216+384 = 600
which is twice what Leo earned.
All looks good to me.
Peter earned 20% more money than Leo. Sam earned 40% less money than Peter. When Sam worked overtime and earned an additional $384, he would have twice as much as much money as Leo. How much did the three men earn altogether if Sam had not worked overtime?
