Patrick purchased some supplies for his guitar students. He bought 25 guitar picks and 25 guitar strings since they only cost $1 more than the guitar picks. He spent a total of $40. If c is the cost of one guitar pick, find the cost of one guitar string

4 answers

c + $1
cost of 1 pics --- x
cost of strings ---- x+1

25x + 25(x+1) = 40
50x + 25 = 40
50x = 15
x = .30

so each pick costs 30 cents and strings cost $1.30

check:
25(.30) + 25(1.30)
= 7.50 + 32.50 = 40
so first, the equation is 25(x + 1) = 40 because he bought 25 of both.

divide 40 divided by 25 = 1.6

Then subtract 1.6 by 1 = 0.6

the answer is $0.6
