Five years ago, I went training in order to be prepared for an ice skating competition in San Mateo. My mother, father, sister, grandma, aunt, and uncle were there to support me. After the competition was over, the awards ceremony took place near the rink. My family came to watch me accept my first place trophy. My family cheered when they saw my name on the paper that shows all the winners. They all said, Congratulations. I was proud of myself, and I had a good time. I will always remember this day because I made a great accomplishment and reached one of my goals in life.

First of all, when you are writing something in Spanish, SIMPLIFY and try writing only in Spanish, using the structures and vocabulary you have mastered. Writing it first in English and trying to translate (literally) NEVER works!

Hace cinco años que yo empecé a entrenar para participar ... (etc.) Drop "la" and "el" in front of hermana, etc., tío and use "mi." ...estuvieron (arrived) allí OR estaban (Imperfect = were there) allí para mirar.
