Is this sentence correct? Or did I conjugate it wrong? :Je vais au cinéma hier.

Can someone please help me with this question I'm not sure what the verb is in this sentence;
Écris le verbe au passé composé:
Qu'est-ce qu'il y a dans une grande ville?
I'll send this to our French expert, SraJMcGin.
It has been impossible to access this site this afternoon and I have tried 3 times to post an answer. It's a good think I saved it, because I'll try again. I had to use a different Browser:

Here is what your first sentence says: I am going to the movies YESTERDAY. That last word means that you must use the Past Tense. That means either the Passé Composé for an action that DID happen, or the Imperfect for some that WAS goING on. In this case, it must be the Passé Composé = Je suis allée au cinéma hier. Note that there is an extra "e" on the Past Participle, because the verbs conjugated with être have the Past Participle agree in number (singular/plural) and gender (masculine/feminine).

The directions say "Write the verb in the passé composé. If you need information on the passé composé, just ask. MOST verbs use avoir as the helping (auxiliary) verb. The past participle (and there are irregular ones) only agree with a PRECEDING direct object.

The verb here is avoir. Qu'est0ce qu'il y a = what is there. The idiom is "il y a" = there IS and there ARE. So you put "avoir" (a) in the passé composé = a eu in the passé composé. "Quest-ce qu'il a eu dans une grande ville." I, however, would have preferred the Imperfect!

P.S. If you have any questions, be sure to ask. I'll flag this and come back later to see.
Apparently therre are no questions on the 2nd day, so I'll not be back.
